It was the best of times, it was the worst of times

Well, this week was one of the craziest so far. So many ups and downs. On Monday we started off strong with going to eat at a member’s house! It was a fun night filled with delicious Ukrainian food and lots of pictures! She emailed all of our parents the pictures and videos they took of us.  On Tuesday we went to Evalina's house. She is less active that we visit every week. She wanted us to do service for her this week but we weren't wearing service clothes. She made us sweep the floor and the ceiling. Ummm so let me just say her house is really dirty. Like really dirty. It is filled with all sorts of unidentifiable crawling objects haha. We don’t put our bags down there because of the spiders and cockroaches. But yeah I swept the floor and the entire trash pile was crawling. Sister King swept the ceiling and what we thought were paint cracks were actually hundreds of spiders haha. We were both dying. We felt a little sick after but we bounced back the next morning ha...

An Apostle is Coming! An Apostle is Coming!

This week was pretty average. We spent a lot of time calling and trying to contact referrals and people we met while contacting. We didn't have too much luck, but then yesterday we had a lot of miracles happen. We were only expecting one of our investigators to come. We were at the church early to practice a musical number for sacrament meeting with the elders when our investigator Kcenya showed up. Then 10 minutes later a guy from English practice randomly showed up too. His name is Vareli and he has been coming for a while. It's kinda funny because Sister King and I were the first sisters in a while and so he was very excited and brought us chocolates every week. Anyway he hasn't been interested in the Church but then at English on Friday he came up and asked us what time Church was at and he actually came!!! He was able to see us sing and he really enjoyed it.  One of the people we met from contacting this week also showed up! He is awesome! His name is George and he i...

The Lord magnifies our efforts and makes miracles

This week was a great one! After such an inspiring week at zone conference and watching General Conference, Sister king and I buckled down and got to work. We did so much finding, and it paid off! It is amazing to see how when we put in all we have and try our best, the Lord will magnify our efforts to make miracles happen!   So here are some of the miracles this week:  1. We are working with a less active member who has really bad depression. We go to her weekly but a lot of weeks she won't let us in. This week her home teacher, Brother Bartosh, wanted to come with us. We were really nervous that she would be mad that he came or that she wouldn't let us in but when we rang her doorbell she let us in and they chatted for an hour! Members make all the difference! It was an answer to our prayers that she let us in and was so happy to see her ministering brother from the ward.  2. We did so many "book tables" this week and found so many people who were intereste...

Modern revelation is the best!

Image
This week was amazing and ended with some exciting announcements! 2 HOURS OF CHURCH! This announcement has us so pumped! Not only is it going to be easier to get people we are teaching to Church (haha), but the new home-centered gospel study plan is going to give each one of us more opportunities and more responsibility to seek and receive personal revelation. There were so many amazing talks in this conference that its hard to choose which were my favorites. I recommend all of you read Elder Rasband's talk on fear and of course Elder Cook's talk about the new Sunday schedule (he is coming to our mission on Oct 25th!) and Elder Bednar's talk. I am so grateful for our modern day prophet who can receive revelation for our church and help guide us along the covenant path.  This week we also had zone conference and it was all centered around using time wisely and it was so motivational and uplifting. We learned how to better set goals and put forth our best effort before th...

Baptisms + Word of Wisdom

Image
This was a great week filled with lots of work, lessons, and contacting.  We can tell we are working hard when we get home at 9 o'clock and go straight to bed. Yeah, that did actually happen a couple times this week. I have learned to appreciate sleep more than ever on the mission. There was a baptism this week! The Elders in our district baptized their investigator Nadejda, the mother of a member in our ward, and it was such a happy day! The baptism was supposed to happen next month but after church last Sunday she decided to move up the baptism to Friday morning. So all week we called and called and invited and planned for this baptism. Sister King and I gave a talk on Baptism and it went really well! We also were in charge of snacks haha so we made sure there were plenty of cookies and juice. Because it was so last minute and on a weekday, not many people could come, but luckily interviews were going on in the mission office in the same building so we were able to corral...
