Hello everyone from Madrid week 2!

Image
It´s true what they say about the MTC, days feel like weeks and weeks feel like days. Everyday is jam packed with Russian but it is coming along. I am genuinely surprised by how much I enjoy it!  The highlight of my week was definitely the park on Saturday. Here at the Madrid MTC, we ride the Metro to a gorgeous park every Saturday to proselyte. They switch up our companionships so we can be with people who actually speak Spanish. This week my comp was Hermana Broadhead who is one of my best friends here at the MTC: I was surprised at how much I could speak and understand Spanish. I guess the Holy Ghost is using those 6 years to my advantage! We had some great conversations while we were there, and some were even in english. Bless! It is safe to say the park is my favorite day of the week because it reminds me of why I came here in the first place, to share the gospel!  Last Pday we went to the city of Alcala. It is the birthplace of Cervantes, the author of Don Quixot...

First P-Day in Madrid!

Hello!  This has been one crazy week and I dont know where to start.  We arrived in Spain last Friday morning after a crazy few days of delays and changes. But we made it here and I am so glad we did! Not only do I love the MTC but I also love Spain! It is cool because we are allowed to leave the MTC to play sports every day and go to the local stores around the area. The MTC is in a tall building right next to the Temple. From almost every window, there is an amazing view of the temple and let me just say it is beautiful! It is closed now but it will open back up in a couple of weeks and I will get to go inside. I cant wait!  There are only 4 districts here. 2 spanish speaking districts, 1 spanish native, and 1 Russian. So that adds up to a whopping total of 35 missionaries. Everyone knows everyone here and it is so fun! My district is awesome! There are 10 of us: 2 elder companionships and 3 sister companionships. One of the elders is from Brazil but has stu...

I'm on my way!

Well, it's finally here. I'm on my way to Madrid Spain on Thursday. I can't believe it. It's been a bit confusing as it came down to the wire. At first, the plan was to fly to Spain on Monday. But by last Friday, the necessary visas had not been received by Church travel. So, we were reassigned to enter the Provo MTC on Wednesday. Well, today (Tuesday) we heard that the visas arrived, and that we have now been reassigned back to Madrid, and the Church is trying to arrange our travel for Thursday. I'm crossing my fingers that it works out! Anyway, welcome to my mission blog. If you want to be notified of my weekly updates, then go ahead and subscribe using your preferred email address. For those who want to send me email, please use my new mission email:  edaines@myldsmail.net Thanks to everyone out there! It means so much to me to have all of you supporting me! Bon voyage!! Пока́! Bye! Счастли́во! (Goodbye and good luck!) Sis. Daines

My farewell talk

For those who weren't there, here's the full text of my farewell talk Alpine 4th Ward; Sunday, May 27, 2018. Good morning brothers and sisters, my name is Emily Daines. I have been called to serve in the Ukraine Kyiv mission speaking Russian. I report to the Spain MTC on June 5th. I only have one week to go! I am excited, nervous, and humbled to be taking on this calling to serve the Lord. As I prepare for this assignment, I take comfort in what it says in section 4 of the Doctrine and Covenants. As you know this is the section that contains the great commission to all who "embark in the service of God.” The section is made up of only 145 words and only takes about 45 seconds to read but it contains a complete formula for success in serving the Lord. It begins with the simple statement, “a marvelous work is about to come forth.” It is impossible to exaggerate the importance of this statement. It reminds us that all our efforts to minister are founded upon a ...
